Students at the Aurora Elementary School held the 12th annual Food Fight to raise donations for the Hamilton County Food Pantry.
In previous years students have brought in food items, but due to the ongoing pandemic it was decided to switch to collecting coins.
“Due to COVID-19 this year we tried something new and collected coins from each grade,” Marsha Pawley explained.
Organized by 44 fifth grade CmPS members, the largest group they’ve had, and Pawley, the students raised the equivalent of 5,565 pounds of food. She noted that in the past the Food Fight has yielded an average of 3,500 pounds of food.
Funds raised are: 1. fifth grade, $848.23; 2. first grade, $545.51; 3. second grade, $364.93; 4. kindergarten, $356.01; 5. fourth grade, $348.23; 6. third grade, $319.61. This led to their total of $2,782.52.
Accepting the check on behalf of the Hamilton County Food Pantry was Bruce Ramsour who expressed his thanks to the students for their donation.
Pawley added that she was thankful for the generosity from the students and families during the fundraiser.
