Local attorney Mike Powell took in his final meeting as the official county attorney Monday, as commissioners accepted his letter of resignation and welcomed acting then-current deputy county attorney Doug Dexter to fill the remainder of his term.
Powell announced his resignation during the Dec. 20 meeting.
“So Doug, you’ve had an opportunity to look at the agreement and you’re okay with it?” Chairman Rich Nelson questioned.
Dexter agreed, noting he had requested a few changes.
Brief discussion followed, including talk of the county renting office space for Dexter from Powell, who will continue his work in private practice with Powell & Luzum.
After all present had taken a few minutes to familiarize themselves with the most up-to-date copy of the agreement, a motion was made and seconded that Dexter be appointed to serve out the remainder of Powell’s term as Hamilton County Attorney. All ayes followed.
