Nebraska’s famed volleyball coach shared another side of himself during a presentation last week in Grand Island, confiding his affection for beef, horses and all things agriculture.
John Cook delivered a powerful talk that was both funny and motivational, laced with anecdotes, coaching insight and highlights from his 22-year tenure in Lincoln, which includes four national championships. Now that he has a horse named Bud to call his own, Cook said it’s given him a new perspective on his adopted state.
“I’ve got a big announcement today in that not only am I the Nebraska volleyball coach, but now I’m also the assistant coach for UNL rodeo,” he began during a keynote speech at the Aurora Cooperative’s annual meeting at the Pinnacle Bank Expo Center. “It’s been a great experience for me to really connect with the agricultural part of the state. It changed my world on appreciation and respect for what these kids (on the rodeo team) do and the responsibilities they have.”
