The Aurora 4R School Board discussed its proposed 2022-23 fiscal year budget in a meeting Monday, though it cannot be approved until after a joint public budget hearing with Sept. 26.
Despite a required pause in the routine, board members, alongside Supt. Jody Phillips pushed through a review of the $26,969,404 (overall) budget. The budget reflected an increase of almost $6 million over the actual/estimated disbursements and transfers from last school year.
Of note, as Phillips would discuss later in his presentation, the actual operating budget for the 4R District, for the 2022-23 school year, has decreased from that of the 2021-22 operating budget of $24,502,476 to a total of $24,113,028.
This was due in part, Phillips reported, to the absence of almost $1 million in ESSER (COVID relief) funds.
“We spent $950,000, so we knew last year that we had a very large jump and increase in our budget,” he said. “This year we have a slight decrease in our (operating) budget based on the fact that those ESSER funds are one-time funds and the majority of them have been spent.”
