Following up on a conversation from July of 2021, 4R board members had an action item on the agenda Monday concerning the proposed Aurora Community Field House.
Looking back, high school teacher and football coach Kyle Peterson was joined by community member Wade Regier, introducing a prospective $4.5 million project, the Aurora Community Field House, to those in attendance at the July school board meeting.
This large, indoor (with ready and available access to outdoors) facility’s proposed location is still set on the Aurora campus, between the Aurora Elementary School and the high school/ middle school. Regier and Peterson noted that they hope to have the project privately funded.
The 4R board did not vote on the issue after it was last discussed.
Monday’s meeting put the topic back in front of board members, though did not include anyone to speak or update on the issue.
“(This is) based off of conversations that we’ve had in the past with the group,” Supt. Jody Phillips said. “Their proposal is that they would raise funds for the construction of the field house, but for it to be on district property and be owned, operated and maintained by the district. So before they start moving forward with anything, they need this board’s blessing as far as that.”
By taking such action, Phillips explained later, the board would only be giving tentative approval for construction by an outside source to happen on district property. Overall approval is still contingent on the project being fully funded and agreed upon by the board, as well as details such as design, location, ongoing operations and more.
Field house committee and board member Cory Ohlson confirmed that the fundraising process has not yet begun.
