City sales tax proposal lacking a specific plan

Dear Editor:
What is the plan for the proposed sales tax? Is there a plan? I am told this sales tax proposal will raise approximately $1.3 million in one year. That equates to $13 million over 10 years and $26 million over the next 20 years. That is a lot of taxpayer dollars unless there is a clear plan for it.
The mayor has said, “it could help the city fund operations in five specific categories, including public safety; property tax relief; recreation; civil and social activities; and economic development involving expansion and rehabilitation of local infrastructure.” In other words, it could be used for anything and everything. That is not a plan.
I support having quality police protection, EMS services, streets, infrastructure, and more. What concerns me is that we do not know the spending plan for this sales tax revenue. With no specific “plan” I can only conclude this is simply a plan to raise taxes and scatter money around as the city council sees fit.
We, as citizen voters, should not be expected to vote to increase our taxes by millions of dollars over the next several years without a plan that is well thought out and communicated to the citizens. I encourage you to vote “NO” on the City of Aurora sales tax proposal.
