CFRA a helpful resource for local developers

Body

One part of my job that I really enjoy is helping a local individual with an idea as they work to start a new business. While each business is different and the support they need is different, there are a variety of tools and resources that I typically direct them to, so they can get started.
My first recommendation is visiting our website, GrowAurora.com, since there are a variety of resources under the business tab. There is a full guide with information specific to starting a business in Aurora, information for entrepreneurs with specific steps for planning launching and managing a business, as well as a list of business resources available in our state.
One of the business resources listed is the Center for Rural Affairs (CFRA). I recently had the opportunity to meet with a loan specialist from the Grand Island Office to learn more about their services. They are uniquely positioned to provide services for both English and Spanish speaking individuals and have the capacity to provide more hands-on support for lending, counseling and training, than I can provide.
I was also interested to learn that the CFRA can serve a more diverse set of clients through their Small Business Loan Program, which has an underwriting process that is more flexible than traditional lenders. Their loans range from $1,000 to $250,000 for working capital, equipment, inventory and real estate.
I will always recommend that a small business works with their local bank first, but in some industries or situations it can be difficult for traditional banks to underwrite, so this is a great option for that type of situation. It is important to understand that these loans through the CFRA will have a higher interest rate because they are taking on more risk, but paired with the one-on-one counseling they will help set their clients up for success.
You can contact Joseline Reyna at 308-850-4820 or email joseliner@cfra.org for more information about all the services the CFRA provides or visit GrowAurora.com for information on this and other business resources.
