Can Care-A-Van food drive a most worthy cause
Dear Editor:
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Hamilton County Food Pantry, I would like to encourage you to support the 17th annual Channel 10/11 Can Care-A-Van for Hamilton County on Tuesday, June 15. It will be held at the Food Pantry located at 12th and N Street in Aurora from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. KOLN/KGIN station personalities, Jon and Taryn Vanderford will be on hand for the festivities this year. They are planning on doing Pure Nebraska Live from Aurora this year.
The Can Care-A-Van is an annual food drive throughout several Nebraska communities that helps to fill the pantry shelves during the critical summer months. We will be collecting canned, non-perishable food which will be distributed to Hamilton county residents who are in need. Please check the expiration dates on your donations. The Hamilton County Food Pantry is totally supported and managed by volunteers.
All money and food collected stays with the Food Pantry to be used to keep our shelves full and to pay rent and utilities. The Hamilton County Food Pantry only serves residents from Hamilton County.
When we have the opportunity to improve lives; everyone benefits. With better nutrition, people are more able to earn an income and are better equipped to control what they do with it. When families eat better; they stay healthy. Communities thrive. And in the end, our entire nation is in a better position to prosper economically.
It’s been a crazy past few months. Please remember to wear your mask and maintain distance between friends. Monetary donations are also welcome and can be delivered to the pantry that day or mailed to P O Box 7, Aurora, NE. I hope you will join us in supporting the 2021 Channel 10/11 Can Care-A-Van.
Thank you in advance for your generosity.
Gloria Carlson,
Aurora
Our nation is in deep peril
Dear Editor:
Recently, over 120 retired Flag Officers published an “Open Letter” attempting to warn Americans that “Our Nation is in deep peril.” They went on to say that our Constitutional Republic is in a fight for survival “like no other time since our founding in 1776.” This struggle is between Marxists and the lovers of the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and property given to us by our Creator.
Bestselling author and commentator, David Horowitz, a Jew and former Marxist, was asked how did America get in this perilous situation. His answer was, “One word -- schools!”
Totalitarian regimes have long known the old adage, “You can’t teach old dogs new tricks.” While you may be able to teach them new tricks, it takes much more time and effort than to start with young, more malleable minds. Hitler observed, “When an opponent declares, ‘I will not come overto your side,’ I calmly say, ‘Your child belongs to us already... . What are you? You will pass on. Your descendants, however, now stand in the new camp. In a short time they will know nothing else but this new community.” Before him, Marx said, “Take away a nation’s heritage and they are more easily persuaded.” George Orwell, in his novel “1984”, concurred: “Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.”
Historian Barbara Tuchman once stated, “A nation’s past history governs its present actions but only in terms of what its citizens believe their past history to have been.” (emphasis added)
Horowitz further explains, “...Christian doctrines were foundational to the American Republic, which the left despises.” “...America is the logical, if not inevitable, development of the Protestant Reformation.”
Many renowned historians and scholars have arrived at the same conclusion:
German historian, Ranke, “John Calvin was the virtual founder of America.”
George Bancroft, probably the leading American historian of the nineteenth century, called Calvin the “father of America.”
D’Aubigne, a leading Reformation scholar, said, “Calvin was the founder of the greatest of republics.”
Roman Catholic scholar Emilio Castelar, president of the Republic of Spain in 1873, acknowledged, “It was necessary for the republican movement that there should come a morality more austere than Luther’s, the morality of Calvin, and a Church more democratic than the German, the Church of Geneva. The Anglo-Saxon democracy has for its lineage a book of a primitive society -- the Bible.”
The war between atheistic Marxism and our Judeo-Christian Constitutional Republic began with the removal of the religious presence from America’s government schools. That process was initiated by socialist John Dewey, the “Father of Public Education.” We first had the insertion of the atheist faith in evolution under the guise of “science” in 1925. Then came the removal of Bibles and prayer in the 1960s.
Once Christianity was removed, the purging of our history began. Older readers may remember when Western Civilization was a required subject. Today, it’s not even offered in most schools. Instead, students are being taught, via multicultural studies, that there are not exceptional cultures or civilizations - especially American.
I can tell you with certainty that the Sam Cooke song from 1960, “Don’t Know Much About History,” applies to this generation, and the previous one. America is, indeed, on the brink of succumbing to the Marxist cultural revolution that is taking place.
