The Hamilton County Corn Growers Association gathered Aug. 30 to tour their test plot north of Hampton and hear updates about the association and industry.
Addressing the gathered farmers and guests, association president Mike Bergen welcomed everyone to the annual event.
Sharing some local statistics, he noted that in terms of bushels per acre that Hamilton County is the top-yielding county in the state of Nebraska.
“We are in the heart of corn country,” he said. “On total bushels produced we are at about 48 million bushels. We are in the top 10 counties nationally. The only other county that’s in Nebraska that’s ahead of us is York County and they have about 10 percent more acres than we do.”
He voiced that those numbers are why it was so important that they continued to gain new members. Currently, the Corn Growers have around 150 members but he believes that they could reach 250 people between industry people and farmers.
