It is a unique combination, space and agriculture. However, it’s a combination that has found its way together before and after the Aug. 22 Heuermann lecture, “Space for Ag: NASA Satellites and Science to Support Food and Water Security.”
NASA Earth Science Director Karen St. Germain was featured as the keynote speaker, alongside panelists that included Giltner farmer Brandon Hunnicutt. Not long after that St. Germain was one of a handful of visitors to the Hunnicutt farm, with Zach Hunnicutt on hand to tell them all about what’s been happening on the family farm.
“Just to tell you a little bit about our farming operation, my brother and I farm with our dad,” Hunnicutt began, introducing himself and the farming operation to those in attendance at the farm tour. “We’re, I think, the fifth generation to farm here. Mostly irrigated farm ground around here, all pivots. We raise corn, soybeans, popcorn, seed corn...”
