Hamilton County businesswoman Beth Wood is now in the record books for something festive and positively giant.
Wood, co-owner of T.C. Machine, is a fan of giant pumpkins and worked tirelessly over the course of the growing season this year to produce her largest one yet -- weighing in at 1,365 pounds and taking home the title of the third largest pumpkin, by weight, to be grown in Nebraska.
“Actually, things start right now in the fall, where we’re doing the soil prep,” Wood said, offering how-to insight on growing giant pumpkins. “We get our garden area ready with the compost, and this year we’re doing a cover crop of rye. We’re kind of taking the advice from fellow farmers out here that do cover crops.”
