We once believed there was nothing sillier than grandparents when their first grandchild is born. Now we acknowledge great-grandparents could be more than a challenge to our belief when a first great-grandchild comes around. Even more specific we could acknowledge great-grandmas might hold the title even over a great-grandfather’s feelings
Right now we feel we can speak with authority. You see we have been able to “double” our pleasure because we have just become great-grandparents to twin girls, Clara and Alison. Adding to that feeling is the fact it is the first time in three generations that a daughter (or two) were born into the immediate Furse clan.
The Betterhalf and I produced three sons, two of which brought us four grandsons. And now one of those grandsons and his wife brought us the twin girls. Making the deed even more dramatic is the fact that the day after birth the Betterhalf was allowed the pleasure to hold them. Unfortunately she thought she should have been given more time with them even though I allotted my minutes of time to her. Great-grandad was given the holding option, but felt he should pass explaining, “They are so tiny I’m scared with my nervousness I could drop her.”
Well, what’s ahead? The way I’ve got it figured, my fear will eventually be overcome and I’ll become more brave. The Betterhalf will also have to concede to a couple of grandmas who should get first chances at babysitting. As for this great-granddad, he’s going to have to be making frequent trips to Clara and Alison’s house just to see the young ones and let’s not forget, to see the mom and dad.
Anyway,  I ’ve got to go to work prepping for the future when I can step in and really spoil those little gals.

A Midwest Living section in a daily newspaper caught my eye with fresh ideas in gardening products and recipes. I do not do any gardening or very little cooking, but a few pages featuring waffles and pancakes caught my attention. Recipes featuring ice cream waffle sundaes, caramel pecan turtle waffles with hot fudge caramel toppings, stuffed waffles, bananas and peanut butter fluff waffles . . . and the list went on and on. The recipes wetted my old appetite until a few pages later here was a whole page devoted to “a simple and customizable way to manage weight.”
Well, so much for my pancake/waffle dreams.
