As another year winds to a close, and harvest grows ever-closer to completion, Nebraska Extension took to its regular Thursday webinar series to address past, current and future farm outlooks.
This webinar in late October featured Brad Lubben, Extension policy specialist at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
“Today’s focus is on farm income, farm programs and the ag outlook,” Lubben said. “Fundamentally, we’re talking about farm income supports that have been a substantial part of the bottom line over the past few years, (a) dramatic amount of payments in 2020 in relief of COVID-19 and other pandemic concerns (and) an outlook ahead that says maybe reduced payments and impacts on farm income to come.”
Commodity price recovery in the later part of 2020, continuing on into 2021, helped farm income grow as well, he added, even lending to possible record farm income levels for 2021.
“All of that is still painting a picture of some uncertainty,” he added.
