As the weather warms up and the calendar turns into the summer months, most every farmer in Hamilton County has wrapped up their planting season.
Fresh out of a unique set of circumstances in 2020 -- flooding, a pandemic -- local voices also expressed contentment with the “status quo.”
“I think we finished all of our commercial corn and soybeans on the ninth or the 10th,” Mitch Oswald reported. “And then we had some seed corn we had to plant, and that’s kind of on their schedule. We just finished that here about a week to 10 days ago.”
Fellow Hamilton County farmer Cale Carlson also reported he had finished planting for the season. He added that this was pretty much in line with last season. Obviously this wasn’t the case for everyone, as some areas saw more rain than others in early spring.
“We were kind of behind for a little bit,” Oswald noted. “We didn’t actually start planting until, I think like the 28th of April. Which, I do know some people that got a chance to get started earlier, but we were trying to fertilize and stuff so we didn’t get started as early as some.”
