The Nebraska Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has a motto of helping people help the land and Brad Soncksen, assistant state conservationist for programs, shared how the group is working to fulfill their mission.
“We’re primarily a planning agency, going back 85 years,” he began. “We are one of the primary USDA agencies that work on private lands within this country. All of our programs are based on working lands with making practices that we offer, and pay for, to be compatible with production agriculture.”
Their work is tied to resource concerns including water, soil, plants and habitat. The agency offers financial assistance through the farm bill free of charge on a voluntary basis.
The first step for anyone wanting to get involved would be to contact one of their field offices to begin what he called the nine-step process for planning.
