Taking to the competitors’ ring, two Aurora livestock exhibitors put their skills to the test at the 2021 Aksarben Stock Show.
Ava Myers and Morgan Bonifas both competed in the Aksarben Lamb Challenge where they raised lambs from April until the competition in September.
Now that they have concluded the show, both girls took a moment to reflect on the challenges, lessons and impact of competing at the stock show.

Ava Myers
Taking to the show as one of the younger contestants at age 11, Ava competed in the lamb challenge.
She recalled applying last year in March and then getting her lamb in April. Her mother Jill added that through September Ava had to raise the lamb, keep daily records and write to her sponsors every month.
“Then on Friday (Sept. 24) we had to take the lamb to get weighed,” Ava said. “On Saturday I showed and they judged us on showmanship and live placing.”
