Saturday saw sunshine and heat at local Marquette organic farming industry leader Grain Place Foods’ annual field day. The event, complete with tour, lunch, speakers and an art feature was well attended.
One of a pair of keynote speakers for the afternoon was Kellee James, founder and CEO of Mercaris, a company focused on market conditions for organic and non-GMO commodities, as well as providing a digital space for buyers and sellers to trade said physical commodities.
Keller has had experience at the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX) and was appointed as a White House Fellow by President Barack Obama. In her address to field day participants she spoke on current commodity markets and their effect on organic agriculture.
