Giltner farmer Brandon Hunnicutt helped kick off Hamilton County’s “Ag Day” presentations by giving attendees an inside update on the state of corn locally, statewide and at the national level.
Hunnicutt serves as a District 3 representative on the Nebraska Corn Checkoff board, covering Hamilton, York, Merrick and Nance counties. That is noteworthy, he said, due to the structure of the board.
“The way the checkoff works is they split up the districts by production,” he said. “So you can obviously tell I have only four counties, (which means) we have some of the highest production in Nebraska.”
He is also a board member on the Nebraska Corn Board and the National Corn Growers Association.
“Just a couple quick updates,” Hunnicutt began. “Obviously many of you are aware that the Unicameral is in session and they’ve introduced a bunch of bills. And so the Growers Association is going through those bills and monitoring and figuring out which bills they’re going to support, which bills they are going to oppose and which ones to just kind of monitor, because there are some bills that we always monitor, just to see what’s going on.”
