The Huskies played golf in unfamiliar conditions Friday, teeing it up with no wind on a soggy course, yet found their footing to earn three individual medals and a runner-up trophy at the Central Conference showdown in Seward.
Senior Cauy Walters was three off the winning pace with a solid round of 76 to finish fourth, while junior Drew Knust carded a 78 for sixth and senior Tate Nachtigal snagged a 14th place finish with a round of 85. York’s Emmanuel Jensen won medalist honors with a three-over par 73.
“It was the complete opposite of what we’ve been playing in so it’s nice to have no wind and very warm conditions for once this year,” coach Craig Badura said of a spring season plagued by dry, extremely windy conditions every time out. “We had a really good practice vibe with the team this week so I knew going in that we had a pretty good chance of getting runner-up. York is just so solid this year and with four guys in the 70s they are hard to beat.”
The Dukes did in fact cruise to the conference title, posting a salty 303 team score, 27 strokes ahead of the runner-up Huskies. Columbus Lakeview was third with a 336.
