Before 2020, High Plains had never made it to a district final game in volleyball. Now, they’ve qualified in back-to-back years.
The Lady Storm earned their way in, winning the D2-3 subdistrict final over Osceola in front of a home crowd Oct. 26, doing so in three sets.
Over the course of the two-day tournament, HPC’s gym was a tough environment for visitors, something High Plains coach Brittany Klingsporn credited as a huge boost for the girls.
“We had an amazing home crowd,” Klingsporn said. “The girls from the beginning were ready to play. We were excited, had the energy and that carried through both nights. We had support from our school and community. That energy and momentum carried them through.”
HPC got off to a hot start in the first with a 4-0 run, including attacks from Hailey Lindburg, Courtney Carlstrom and Gordona Howell.
That lead became 13-8 before Osceola took its first timeout as Rylee Ackerson got involved with several swings.
“We have some big hitters on the outside and we go to them a lot,” Klingsporn said. “Those hitters are reliable and our leaders on the court. We look to them for their swings on the outside and their leadership.”
