A great start to the NSAA state wrestling championships turned the other direction by the end of the evening for High Plains.
The Storm went a perfect 4-for-4 in the opening round of the tournament, but only one would win their quarterfinal matchup.
Wyatt Urkoski found the winning move in each of his first two matchups, recording pinfalls each in the second period to qualify for the semifinals at 138. Urkoski will take on Sutherland's Jon Peterka in Friday's semifinals.
Hudson Urkoski picked up a second period pinfall in the opening round at 106 before falling in the second period during his quarterfinal matchup.
Gage Friesen suffered a similar fate, earning a decision victory in the opening round before being pinned in his quarterfinal matchup at 120.
Javier Marino won his opening round match at 132 in his final appearance at state with an 8-0 major before losing a tough 3-1 decision to Sutherland's Matt Bruns.
H. Urkoski, Friesen and Marino will be in the consolation rounds Friday.
