Aurora christened its new field turf in traditional Husky aggressiveness -- a game-opening onside kick.
From there, the fight only continued to intensify with explosive plays and mountainous momentum swings. And yet, the visiting Bennington Badgers spoiled Aurora’s Homecoming efforts in a 55-44 contest in one of the state’s marquee games Friday night.
Aurora coach Kyle Peterson told his team afterward it was okay to be angry following its second straight loss to start the season. But, he added, all of its goals are still firmly ahead and if they take care of business, it wouldn’t be the last time Aurora and Bennington line up on the gridiron this season.
“It was an example of two teams that really battled,” Peterson said. “Every time they needed to make a play, they did. Same for us. It was a great high school football game and a great opportunity for our kids to learn to almost be perfect against these teams and not make the mistakes we did. Tonight gives us a good gauge of what we have to do to finish the season where we want to be.”
