A tough field of competitors and gusty winds made it a challenging day for area track and field teams Saturday in Osceola, where several PRs were set during this year’s Crossroads Conference showdown.
Giltner, High Plains and Hampton athletes earned several medals on the day, persevering in less than ideal conditions. Winds blew a constant 20 mph throughout the day and gusted up to 40 mph, forcing meet officials to reverse directions for some of the shorter events.
“I have to compliment all the kids involved,” said Giltner coach Nancy Lockmon. “I hardly heard a kid say anything about the wind. Yes, we knew it was there and that this is a big event, but they all knew that was the conditions for everybody and they all competed hard. That wasn’t just for the kids on our team, but all teams. I commend them for that.”
