James Heffelfinger, age 85, of Aurora, passed away Monday, March 20, 2023, at Westfield Quality Care.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m.., Saturday, March 25 at the Chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Pastor Jim Garfield will officiate. Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. at the Beaver Crossing Cemetery in Beaver Crossing. Memorials may be made in care of the family to designate at a later date. James Geddes Heffelfinger, the son of Robert Lee and Ruth Lucille (Bloodgood) Heffelfinger, was born in Beatrice, on October 31, 1937 and passed away in Aurora, on March 20, 2023, at the age of 85.
Jim grew up in Beatrice and then the family moved to Lincoln.  He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1956.  Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1960.  He served on the Dennis Joseph Buckley.
Jim was united in marriage to Sandra Sue Fox in 1961 and to this union were born three children, Douglas David, Deneen Jane and Dawn Ruth.
Following their marriage they resided in Lincoln until 1972 when they moved to Tempe, Arizona until 1982. In 1982 they moved to Aurora, Colorado where they made their home until 1989 and then they moved to Aurora, where they lived since. Jim worked as a carpet installer for many years.  Sandy passed away on January 25, 2011.
Jim was inducted into the Gymnastics Hall of Fame at Lincoln High School in 1985. He was an Aurora Senior Center Volunteer and participated in the Senior Center FROGS program. Jim was also part of the McDonald’s Mens Coffee Group.  He was a past member of the Assembly of God Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are his son, Doug (Terri) Heffelfinger of Boise, Idaho; two daughters, Deneen Denny of Norfolk and Dawn Heffelfinger of Aurora; 6 grandchildren, Jessica (Jesse), Erin (John), Corey (Amanda), Ashley (Michael), Dillion (Darbi) and Olivia (Chase) and 9 great-grandchildren, Damion, Akyra, Maddy, Teigan, Logan, Leah, Jameson, Bradi and Samuel.  He is also survived by two brothers, Dick (Jeanie) Heffelfinger of Grass Valley, CA and Gail (Barb) Heffelfinger of York; sister, Sandy Smallman of Zellwood, FL and nieces, nephews and many friends.
