York upsets Aurora in B-7 district

Anything goes in both rivalry games and postseason contests. That double whammy was good news to the upset-minded York Dukes Thursday night.

Despite trailing 43-37 with 3:31 left, York rallied to down the top-seeded Huskies at the buzzer, 48-47 Thursday night to open B-7 district play.

After a York made three with 1:38 left made it a 43-41 Aurora lead, Canon Allen responded with a mid-range jumper to extend the lead to four, 45-41 with 1:17 to go.

York snagged the lead again at 46-45 with 25 seconds left after a huge three-ball from freshman Garrett Haggadone as the Huskies needed a response.

That response, like it has much of the past few seasons, came from Allen. After a baseline in-bounds throw, the Huskies got the ball back to Allen in the left corner, who made a dribble-drive past the York defense for an easy layup to give Aurora a 47-46 lead with six seconds to play.

After a timeout, York drove the length of the floor to find an open Dax Peterson on the block, who kissed in the game-winning shot as time expired.

Now, the Huskies' fate is in the hands of the entire Class B field in hopes of clinching the lone wild card spot for the Class B state tournament. Aurora's season mark stands at 18-6.
