County finds solution to space issue

After three county commission meetings in a row and several hours of behind-the-scenes activity by a subcommittee of the board, Hamilton County arrived at a solution for its space concerns at the county courthouse on Monday.

Several grass fires reported locally

The high winds of late have played a part in at least two of several grass and stubble fires in the area over the last week. Aurora Fire Chief Tom Cox says his department answered calls to three fires in the area within a 24-hour period beginning last Monday afternoon, Feb. 26.

Work is expected to begin in May on a $5.6 million 1st Street renovation project which will expand the street from 22 to 37 feet, also lowering the roadway by as much as two feet.

City officials approved plans last week for a three-phase project set to begin this spring which will involve a major renovation of the busy 1st Street corridor stretching from the Highway 34 intersection to the railroad tracks south of the school.
