The Giltner boys and girls basketball teams came up big in late game scenarios Tuesday night.

The boys team fended off a last-second shot to defeat Nebraska Lutheran 40-37 while the Lady Hornets needed overtime to defeat the Knights, 39-34.

Giltner's boys trailed most of the night until taking the lead off a Jacob Smith bucket late in the fourth, scoring six of the final eight points. Smith was a problem for Nebraska Lutheran, scoring 23 points on 10 of 13 shooting to go along with a team-high seven boards.

For the Lady Hornets, the young group had trouble hanging onto a late lead, up 25-19 at the start of the fourth before the Knights tied the game on a shot in the paint at the buzzer for free basketball.

In the extra frame, Giltner scored the first nine points on its way to the win. Macie Antle and Alice Wiles combined for 28 of the Lady Hornets' 39 points.

Giltner will be at Meridian Friday, at home against Shelby-Rising City Saturday before another home game vs Palmer Monday.
