Marcia Pierson

Marcia J. Pierson, 87, of Kearney passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Country House Assisted Living in Kearney. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2025 at Kearney First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2025 at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Interment will be held at a later date.

Marcia was born July 16, 1937 in Central City, to Joseph and Garnet (Gross) Broom. She grew up in Central City and graduated from Central City High School in 1955. She later attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Kearney State College. She was united in marriage to Donald Pierson on July 16, 1966 in Winner, SD. Marcia was an elementary school teacher in Central City and Marquette for 34 years, retiring in 1999. The couple moved to Hamilton County and later moved to Kearney in 2001.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, AAUW, NEA, NSEA, NSEAR and local teachers’ associations.  She had a passion for music and enjoyed playing the organ and piano at several churches. She also enjoyed reading, exercising and sewing. In her retirement, Marcia worked at Herberger’s. She loved playing BUNCO with her Kearney group, volunteering at the hospital and attending plays and musicals.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Tim (Pam) Ellenwood of Funk, Terri Luthy of Bullhead City, AZ, Greg (Julie) Ellenwood of Republican City and Michelle (Steve) tenBensel of Minden; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister Joanne (Larry) Spotanski; as well as many extended family and friends.
Marcia was preceded in death by her parents; and husband Don Pierson.
