M. Lucille Hunnicutt, 91, of Grand Island died October 25, 2021 at home. Funeral services will be on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Grand Island with Pastor Ken Mecone officiating. Private family burial will be at 9 a.m. Thursday, October 28 in the Giltner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 27 at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to the Giltner Alumni Scholarship and the Christian Resource Center at Giltner.
Lucille was born on April 22, 1930 at Giltner, to Edward Richard Obermeier and Alice Louise Anna Sundermeier. She grew up on a farm near Giltner attending country school and graduating from Giltner High School in 1947. Before marrying Gerald she taught school for one year. She was united in marriage to Gerald on April 11, 1948 at Giltner. They raised their children on the family farm. They lived in Giltner for several years before retiring to Grand Island.
Lucille was a member of First Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star, and Daughters of the Nile. She attended various church activities, enjoyed genealogy, collecting owls, was well-known for her deviled eggs and loved making quilts for her grand and great-grandkids. Lucille never failed to pray for all of her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids, always by name.
Lucille is survived by sons, Daryl (Willa) of Giltner, Ron (Pam) of Grand Island, Jay (Lori) of Shawnee, KS; daughter, Wanda (Ken) Mecone of Grand Island; 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; brother, Melvin (Maryellen) Obermeier; brother-in-law, Harv Bish; sisters-in-law, Rita Obermeier and Marleen (Marv) Caspersen.
 She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald Hunnicut; daughter, Myra Lea Hunnicutt; brother, Clyde Obermeier; sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary (Calvin) Hansen; in-laws, Bonnie (El) Ediger, Loren (Doris) Hunnicutt, Verla (Earl) Bachman, Betty (Bobbie) Ranard, Virginia Bish, Keith (Louise) Hunnicutt; and grandson, Chris Rikli.
