David "Dave" McHargue

David “Dave” Walter McHargue, 78, of Grand Island, formerly of Marquette, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 21, 2021, with his loving family by his side.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at the United Presbyterian Church in Central City with Pastor Doug McHargue officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.

Dave was born February 22, 1943, in Central City to Walter and Kathryn (Lock) McHargue.  
Dave graduated from Marquette High School in 1961 and attended UNL. Dave joined the Navy and proudly served our country as a cryptographer. He was honorably discharged in 1967. He met and married Janet Olsen while in the Navy Reserves. He came home to farm and ranch with his dad. His love of farming never ended, which he tended to for more than 40 years. He also worked in maintenance at the Litzenburg Memorial Hospital for over 20 years. Dave enjoyed his time with the Marquette Volunteer Fire Department, Marquette School Board, Marquette FFA, American Legion Post #6, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles 3795. He loved spending time at the lake, bowling, having morning coffee with friends, attending Nebraska football games, and traveling. Above all else, he loved spending time spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His last wish, to celebrate Christmas with his whole family, was achieved this past week.  
Dave married the love of his life, Francine Meiner, on April 9, 1988. Between the two of them they put up with their seven children. Marsha (Lonnie) Granger of Minden, Michael Meiner of Franklin, Maurine (Monte) Schoenstein of Grand Island, Kevin (Clover) McHargue of Prairie City, IA, Melissa (Jonathon) Elliott of Lapeer, MI, Matthew (Katherine) Meiner of Walnut Grove, MN, and Becky (Nicholas) Lesiak of Grand Island.
He is survived by his wife, Francine, their seven children, his brother Jim (LouAnn) McHargue, 18 grandchildren; Christin, Jordan, Skylar, Thomas, Robert, Emma, Deanna, Alex, Elizabeth, Cooper, Benjamin, Rebecca, William, Emerson, Abraham, Jemimah, Nolan, and Meredith, 4 great-grandchildren; Bryson, Brayann, Briella, and Banks, many cousins, and close friends.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Kathryn McHargue.
