Lois Mae Mohr was born on May 22, 1930 to Peter and Vada (Busic) Mohr. She was raised on a farm north of Grand Island where she attended Grand Island Senior High, graduating in 1948. During high school Lois had to work for room and board which included caretaking for a local family and bookkeeping at Woolworth’s. Later that year in 1948, Lois married Elmer Carl Obermeier in September, following many dances together. Three children blessed this union, Terrie, Craig and Glenn.
Elmer and Lois raised their kids in Aurora, moving into their forever home in 1964. There they were long standing members of Messiah Lutheran Church and stayed active with a group of friends playing cards and dancing. Lois had a varied career, working at Wortman Motor Company, Handrup Shoe Store, Hope Furniture, the ASCS office, Obermeier’s Inc, East Park, and Nitta’s Bed & Breakfast and Catering. She was passionate about volunteering for the Red Cross, playing bridge, nurturing her garden, bowling, and staying active in local community groups. But most of all Lois loved to be involved with her grandchildren’s activities which had her traveling to Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Florida, and throughout Nebraska.
Elmer went to his heavenly home in January of 2000. They were married for 51 years. Lois married Rudy Plate on January 14 of 2012. They spent their time enjoying dancing and playing cards with friends and being with family. Rudy passed away in March 2023. Since 2016, Lois resided in nursing care following a stroke. Even in her diminished health, she remained a testament to God’s love, always caring for others with kindness and concern.
Lois is survived by her three children: Terrie (Jim) Urban, Craig (Cheryl) Obermeier, and Glenn (Nancy) Obermeier; ten grandchildren Jennifer (John) Lewis, Matt (Julie) Urban, Ryan Urban, Brad (Jessie) Urban, John (Kim) Obermeier, Travis (Dung) Midkiff, Carlet (Raymond) Hagan, Rebecca (Ross) Golden, Elizabeth (Jesse) Cain, and Andrew (Miranda) Obermeier; nineteen great-grandchildren Jacob (Leah) Lewis, Joslyn Lewis, Miah Urban, Caleb Urban, Kinsley Urban, Brody Urban, Emma Obermeier, JT Obermeier, Kaitlyn Midkiff, Scottie Hagan, Mason Hagan, Raylen Golden, Graydon Golden, Rogan Cain, Callum Cain, and Charlie Obermeier; sister-in-law: Sue Obermeier; three step-children: Terry (Cookie) Plate, Tim (Curt Ratliff) Plate, Nancy (Orlin) Faulhaber; one step-granddaughter: Halley (Evan) Hankins; and one step-great-granddaughter: Leighton Hankins.
