Wood ends HPC career on high note

High Plains senior Tanner Wood went out on a high note Thursday. 

Wood set a new career best mark in high school pole vault competition Thursday, clearing 12-00 to finish 9th in the event during Class D action at the state track and field meet from Omaha Burke. 

Wood was successful on all of his jumps through the 12-foot mark. From there, he missed all three attempts at 12-06. Wood also ran on the HPC 400 relay team alongside Lane Urkoski, Javier Marino and Trevor Carlstrom, finishing 10th overall with a time of 45.84.

Tracy Wiles (Giltner): 9th pole vault 8-06

Brianna Wilshusen (HPC): 13th shot put 32-09

Sydni Watson (Giltner): 16th 400 dash 1:04.19

Alex Smith (Giltner): 22nd shot put 41-02.50

Jacob Smith (Giltner): 24th discus 100-05
