As he and the American Legion Post 42 prepare for the upcoming Veterans’ Day program at Aurora High School, long-time American Legion member and Vietnam War veteran Ron Elge looks back proudly on his service to his country.

Outwardly, the two U.S. Army infantry veterans are vastly different. They come from different generations, different backgrounds and served in conflicts separated by many miles and 40 years of time.

Haunting event terror-rific

It was an event to die for at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds. The fourth annual Haunted Fairgrounds event drew a massive turnout, with a total of 954 daring adventurers entering the maze over two weekends. Many of those brave souls went through more than once.

Hampton’s final flight touches down

Hampton’s football team hosted its first playoff game since 2009 Friday night but a combination of injuries, bad luck and a stout Wallace squad spelled the end of the Hawks’ season with a 51-20 loss to the Wildcats. The game was tied at 20 before Wallace scored 31 unanswered points to end the game.

Hampton opera house is history

Hampton’s historic IOOF Opera House took months to build in 1892 and ‘93 and it took 10 months after being condemned as unsafe for demolition to begin, but once the crew from Broken Arrow Excavating started to tear it down on Thursday, the building was gone in less than nine hours.
