Coach Carter changed game, and life, for many

Sometimes people overlook the tremendous extent the role teachers, coaches, administrators and solid school systems play in grooming future generations. That was not the case a few weeks ago when our good friend, retired teacher, coach, principal Roland Carter died after a long battle with cancer.

Harvest season a welcome sight, but also a time for caution

It’s worth the time to make a special trip these days out into the field or to an area elevator to watch a timeless harvest tradition unfold. Just remember to do it safely.  As the combines start rolling, we are reminded that this is one of the most dangerous seasons of the year in farm country.

A true leader

There was a moment during Aurora’s 30-20 win over Omaha Gross Friday night that many fans likely missed, but will go great lengths to the Huskies’ success the rest of the season.

Years later, testing from future in-laws still a hoot

A couple thoughts crossed my mind for the first time as the other day I recalled several incidents during my initial “courtin’ days of the Bettterhalf. Was her farm family giving me a “welcome” or maybe a “get lost” to this city-slicker because you’re not good enough for my daughter?

20 years later ...

It’s one of those moments we will never forget. If you were old enough to grasp the enormity of what was unfolding on that television screen 20 years ago last week, the images of the 9/11 attack on America are forever seared in your memory.
Nate Boerkircher (49) and Austin Allen (11) were on the field at the same time in a two tight end set late in the third quarter for the Big Red.

Boerkircher brothers relish first on-field experience

Nebraska’s win Saturday over FCS Fordham will be long forgotten by many. While it was a much-needed win for a confidence-starved group, it just won’t register for most fans.  However, Nebraska’s 52-7 win over Fordham will be remembered for a long time by the Boerkircher brothers.

Watching beloved Huskers from the comforts of home

It’s no secret the Betterhalf is possibly one of the top female Husker football fans. A week ago her Husker loyalty took a challenge after the Cornhusker’s loss to Illinois. She was asked if her Husker loyalty was fading. That was a silly question!
