Kale Bish skipped the opening height of the Class D pole vault, but once he entered the field there was no slowing the Hornet sophomore down.
Bish made four clean passes on the runway on his way to an 8th place finish in the event for Giltner’s lone medal Saturday at the track and field championships from Omaha Burke Stadium.
Giltner coach Nancy Lockmon noted Bish’s clean start was encouraging to see on the big stage and the motivation is already there to go higher next season.
“It was nice to see Kale have those clean runs early on to grab that medal spot,” Lockmon noted. “That gives him something to thrive off of and improve for next season.”
Bish came into the competition at 10-6 and cleared his first four marks after that, up through the 12-foot bar. Of those he was battling for the medal with, Bish was the only one to not miss a jump through the 12-foot mark.
