OBITUARY: ROBERT SCHNEIDER
Robert Eugene Schneider, the son of Joseph and Marie (Wilscam) Schneider was born June 26, 1932 on the family farm south of Aurora, Nebraska and passed away on Dec. 23, 2025, at Aurora, Nebraska at the age of 93
Bob grew up and graduated from Aurora High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. While Bob was stationed in England, he met and married his wife, Margaret Heath. Bob was honorably discharged in 1955 and they returned to Aurora, where they had two children: Rose and Thomas. Bob worked for Grosshans in sales. Margaret passed away from cancer in 1963.
In 1964, Bob married Susan Woestman and they had three children: David, Patty and Mike. They moved to Grand Island to raise their family, while Bob worked at New Holland for 26 years. He retired from New Holland in 1991. Susan passed away in 1990.
Bob returned to Aurora after his marriage to Eunice (Tobiassen) Sanger in 1992. He worked at Schneider’s Hardware from 1991 to 2010, when he retired due to his health.
Bob was a very active member of the American Legion and V.F. W; where he held offices, participated in the color guard and supported the Legion baseball program. Bob was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church; Aurora Volunteer Fire Department for five years before moving to G.I. in his younger years. Bob and Eunice enjoyed traveling. They travelled to Alaska seven years in a row. They spent those times in Alaska fishing normally for halibut and salmon. He caught a 40 lb. king salmon and a 180 lb. halibut which he was very proud of. He could make great “halibut nuggets”, so delicious. He also received a master angler award when he caught a 5 lb. largemouth bass. Bob could say he fished in both oceans and Vancouver. He also loved gardening. He used to garden one/half block south of the house. Bob and Rose, his daughter, received Garden of the Month. She was a great helper. Bob took pride in his yard. He also enjoyed deer hunting and would make jerky each year to the delight of his family and friends. He would hand out at Christmas or anytime. His great-nephew Kyle who was about 5 then, even called him “Bacon Bob.” Bob was extremely supportive of his children, grandchildren and extended family. He was a great high school sports fan and could be seen at many of the home sports events and the away games with the Schneider family. He enjoyed his great-nephews playing football and basketball and his great-nieces volleyball and basketball games.
He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives, Margaret and Susan; son-in-law, Bruce Larson; sister, Margaret Fitzgerald; brothers Jim Schneider, Bernard Schneider and Leo Schneider and step-son, Michael Sanger.
