Hampton to host 60th Booster Days

‘Made in the 60’s’ is anniversary theme
 

The hit song “Chapel of Love” was playing on the radio as the Village of Hampton celebrated its first-ever Hampton Booster Days in June of 1964. The song about “goin’ to the chapel” and “gonna get married” by the Dixie Cups was No. 1 on the charts that June and it will no doubt be heard again as Hampton celebrates the 60th anniversary of the annual celebration this weekend. In honor of the milestone anniversary, “Made in the 60’s” is the theme of this year’s Booster Days set for June 7-9. 
As always, Booster Days kicks off Friday evening with the Chic-Giz-Balls Youth Sports Fundraiser from 6-8 p.m. at the Fire Barn (freewill donation). Starting at 7 and running through 9 p.m. There will be Bingo at the Fire Barn and starting at 9 there will be a beer garden featuring the music of the Jessy Karr Band. Starting at midnight, Hampton Breakfast Burritos will be served on Main Street for a charge of $5. The evening’s festivities will wind down at 1 a.m. 
Saturday’s events begin with 5K/1 mile Fun Run at the high school starting at 7:30 a.m. The entry fee is $20 with proceeds going to the Hampton Track Team. For more information contact Hampton track coach Sammy Spirk at sspirk@hamptonhawks.us.
Also from 8-10 a.m. there will be a continental breakfast at the Fire Barn sponsored by United Lutheran Church. The Sand Volleyball Tournament begins with team check-in at 8:30 a.m. at the City Park. The entry fee is $75 per team and interested persons can email  theresadose@gmail.com for more information. Triple C Coffee will be set up at the park at 8 a.m. and water inflatables will be set up for kids from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A beer and pop bob raffle will take place at 10 a.m. at the park and the Hampton FFA will serve a BBQ lunch from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Kona Ice will also be available at the park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 
Main Street events on Saturday will include food trucks from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., Bingo at the Fire Barn from 7-9 p.m. and a beer garden with live band featuring The Western Express will take place from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. 
Food trucks will also be available on Main Street from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Sunday’s big finale will begin at 10 a.m. with a Community Church Service hosted by Countryside Bible Church. The Ervin Schulze Memorial Antique Tractor Show and a Cornhole Tournament and lunch will take place beginning at 11 a.m. with proceeds going to the Hampton Daycare Center. The Hampton Hawks Cheer Clinic will be held from 2-3 p.m. for a charge of $20. (Contact: hoswald@hamptonhawks.us for registration information.) All of the above events will take place at the City Auditorium 
At 3 p.m. the parade will begin lining up at St. Peter’s Church and the 60th Anniversary Hampton Booster Days Parade will begin at 4 p.m. proceeding down Main Street. 
Kona Ice will be available at the Auditorium from 4-6 p.m., and a beer and pop bob raffle will begin at 5, as well as the Community BBQ Supper. At 6 p.m. is the Pedal Tractor Pull sponsored by the FFA and the Knockout Tournament at the Auditorium. Proceeds will go to Kyle’s Locker. The festival will wind up at 6:30 p.m. with the first preview of the 2024/25 Hampton Hawks Cheerleaders and the Egg Drop.
