Summer event scheduled for Saturday
Giltner’s summer is about to ignite with the return of Giltner Daze, brought together by the Giltner Area Development Corporation (GADC).
The main village event will be taking place Saturday beginning at 8 a.m., providing a plethora of activities until 4 p.m.
This year, the beloved street dance will take place after the Giltner Alumni Banquet Friday evening at the Community Center with the Whiskey Bent Band performing. The street dance will commence from 8 p.m. to midnight with a $10 admission fee if not attending the banquet.
Kicking the morning off to a delicious start, Daylight Donuts and Pour Horse Coffee Truck from York will be serving breakfast drinks and treats for early risers.
Also getting a headstart to the morning, The Giltner Daze Car Show will return for its second year bigger than ever with registration opening 9 a.m. to noon. The annual car show will start at noon on the main street with more than 50 vehicles anticipated to be showcased until the end of the event at 4 p.m. Trophies will be offered to the Top 20 cars at the show.

Test to see how well you can throw with the cornhole tournament. Visitors can register their teams at 9:30 a.m. with a $30 fee per team to enter. Cash prizes will be offered to the top three teams with the remaining money to go to GADC.

The Giltner Daze Pole Vault will begin warming up at 9 a.m. with junior high leaping into action at 10 a.m., high school at 11:30 a.m. followed by college/masters with warm-ups also taking place between each group.

At 10 a.m., a tractor pull will be open for children and parents alike for rides between the City Park and maintenance building.
A sand volleyball tournament will start at Giltner Park on Main St. around 8:30 or 9 a.m. with the first and second place teams receiving prizes.
An all-day scavenger hunt will be available and visitors can register for the hunt at the Community Center.
A Penny Dig, sponsored by Robertshaw, Inc., will start at 11 a.m. by the water tower.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. lunch will be provided at the Community Center by the Lions Club in addition to ice cream being served by the Shaved Ice Truck from The Snow in Grand Island and popcorn by Le-Vi Kettle Corn from Giltner. Sit N’ Bull will also serving its pizza by the slice.
Throughout the afternoon, children can jump into fun by climbing Spider Mountain bounce house, get their faces painted and play mini golf among the fun activities offered for them 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Teens and older can take the wheel with the Wacky Trikes races at 1 p.m.
The blind golf cart challenge will take place at 2 p.m. near the Community Center.
