The Hampton Village Board approved the contract for a preliminary engineering report Jan. 9, the first step in a process intended to find a solution to the community’s water source dilemma.
With one well taken out of commission last year due to high nitrate readings, the village is down to one functioning water well. Chris Miller with Miller & Associates Consulting out of Kearney, explained some of the board’s options during last week’s monthly meeting, beginning with a recommendation to authorize the preliminary engineering report. The board unanimously approved that study, of which the village will have to pay 10 percent of the $22,000 tab.
“The whole purpose of the study is to give you options, give you cost, help you evaluate those costs and see what the next step is,” Miller said.
