Constant change includes keys, Husker football

Body

When you’re married over the years you accumulate a lot of things. Recently we discovered one of those “things” can be a lot of keys.
We have six doors in our household that require a key or can be locked. Sounds simple until we discovered we had 19 keys that matched only two of the six doors. The rest of those keys, “who knows what they can unlock or lock?”
Car keys from 2008 models that are long gone, remain. Padlock keys for what? And the list goes on and on. Finally, we were left with only one choice. Call the local locksmith. It was time to consolidate and remedy our dilemma by having one key that could match many doors. So long to the rest of the keys.
Change is inevitable, unfortunately at our age. Well, the next challenge now lies with the kids. They can figure when the time comes to match hopefully one or two keys for all our household doors.

A couple of Big Red fans were complaining about the upcoming Husker football season. They had just become aware that no Big Red balloons would be launched after the first touchdown this year because of a shortage of helium gas that carried the balloons skyward. To make matters worse, the two fans were also concerned about potential deregulations to eliminate college football divisions.
Ironically the two fans had no concern about the cost of higher-priced auto gas to get to the game;  or higher food and beverage costs once they get there; or with potential increased parking fees and other game-related expenses.

While on the subject of sports, from an incident of long ago when a player by the name of Jimmy Foxx had broken into the regular lineup with the Philadelphia Athletics and the Boston Red Sox had come to play a series. George Moriarty was umpiring behind the plate.
Foxx took two terrific cuts at the first two pitches and let the third one float by.
“Strike three you’re out,” said Moriarty.
Foxx turned indignantly, “You missed that one, George.”
“Well you missed the other two,” Moriarty replied. “You’re one up on me.”

We should count our blessings. But we should also make our blessings count.
