County approves inmate housing interlocals
Sheriff presents trio of agreements, joins SCALES
Zooming in, Hamilton County Sheriff Jeromy McCoy visited with the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners Monday to see about a number of law-enforcement related interlocals.
The first item up for discussion paired two of the interlocals together, both dealing with housing out-of-county inmates.
“The Merrick County proposal and the Adams County proposal are the same except for the county names,” McCoy introduced. “We’ve been housing Merrick County inmates since June and Adams County (inmates) since August. So this is just to make it official.”
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department is being paid $50 a day per out-of-county inmate, he reported. It costs the county about $10 a day to house them with food and other necessities.
“All the medical expenses are paid by those counties, whether it’s prescriptions, doctor visits,” he said. “And we have some fixed costs with the personnel costs, utility costs. Housing these inmates from other counties helps us cover some of those costs.”
