Two hires, over budget line item among topics

Fitted in his new uniform and having officially hit the streets of Hamilton County as its new sheriff, Jeromy McCoy approached the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners Monday to address a budget issue, report on staffing and get the approval to advertise for a few open positions in the department.
“I just came today to kind of give the board an update on some things and ask for a couple things,” McCoy began. “First, I just kind of wanted to let the board know that we’re going to go over on at least one line item, and by a fairly significant amount, for our board of prisoners.”
The department budget had had that line item at $45,000, to though by the end of May the total had already surpassed that by $550.
“And the main reason for that is we had to send three people for inmate safekeeping at the Nebraska Department of Corrections this year,” he said. “And so far, through May, we have spent $21,365. We have a bill pending for almost $3,800, so that’ll put us at $25,000 for the year for safekeeping of three inmates. So, we will be over on that significantly.”
