SaBell tees up Titleist internship
Five years ago, Levi SaBell hoisted championship gold alongside his Husky golf teammates, Aurora’s first and only title in the NSAA era.
While he will likely never take a swing on golf’s professional tours, the former Husky has found a way to turn his passion into a potential career path.
SaBell, a student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, was chosen out of a nationwide candidate pool to participate in Titleist’s internship program, one of the most trusted names in golf.
“It’s been amazing so far,” he said. “Thousands of people are applying for the internship that I’m lucky enough to have.”

he life of Madison Vetter, from Zen master to conspiracy theorist
When the artist Madison Vetter walked in to Cottonwood Gallery, he gave a gentle handshake and a smile turned up to his exhausted eyes. He looked thin as a sculpture made of copper wire, but managed to fill the room with personality.
He had just completed two paintings before the interview, still hard at work after his opening in June.
“I’m exhausted, but once it’s going, I hate to quit in the middle,” he said. “Because then you wake up six hours later and you lose the thread.”
To understand what drives the artist to stay up all hours of the day to tackle his artistic passion, there is a whole life to unravel.

Aurora FCCLA students earn national championship hardware
A group of Aurora FCCLA students has come and gone from one of the most successful trips to a national competition and conference the team has ever seen.
According to a press release, the Huskies joined more than 7,000 Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) student members, advisers and guests at the San Diego Convention Center, June 29 through July 3.
This conference provided the students with a chance to hear from a number of speakers, as well as attend workshops, network with peers and compete on a national level.

New officer joins Aurora Police Department staff
Police officer Cody Barry joined the Aurora Police Department as of July 11, replacing an officer who left last year, according to Police Chief Paul Graham.
“I enjoy it. It’s a nice community,” Barry said. “Just driving around, you can tell it’s a nice community. People have been welcoming and are very nice.”
Barry’s interest in law enforcement started as a military police officer as part of the National Guard from 2005 to 2011. He was deployed to Iraq twice.

SOAR legacy continues to fly
Forgetting completely about the hot temperatures and bright, shining sun, another generation of SOAR campers has made its way through the banks of the Platte River to check off a summer must-do.
Summer Orientation About Rivers (SOAR) hosted about 30 kids in each of the two week-long sessions this year and Prairie Plains Resource Institute (PPRI) Executive Director Amy Jones had one word for the whole experience -- incredible.
“This was the first year at the Charles L. Whitney Education Center and, having been around SOAR for 17 years, my best explanation is it was magical to be in that building with the kids that it was built for, and experiencing things that have been part of our mission since 1980,” she said.
