Primary Election sees low turnout

Voter turnout was light for Tuesday's Primary Election in Hamilton County. Only 2,158 votes had been cast countywide by the time the polls closed at 8 p.m.
The biggest upset of the night came in the three-way race for the GOP nomination for Hamilton County Commission in District 2 where 12-year commissioner and current chairman Rich Nelson lost his bid for re-election to challenger Andrew Holtorf. In unofficial results, Holthorf garnered 264 votes to 95 for Nelson and 63 for the other challenger, Chris Slocum of Hampton. 
Meanwhile, Dist. 1 Commissioner Nicole SaBell and Dist. 5 Commissioner Francis Nelson both retained their seats. SaBell received 222 votes to just 63 for challenger Matt Snoberger, and McDonald got 248 votes versus 207 for newcomer Allan Coats. 
In other races, Hamilton County maintained its strong support for incumbent Dist. 34 State Senator Loren Lippincott. The senator received 1,297 votes from county voters, while Ben Blodgett received 476 and Arron Kowalski received 282. 
In the race for Dist. 5 State School Board, county voters overwhelmingly supported Angie Eberspacher in her bid for that position. The vote totals in that three-way race were  Eberspacher, 1,119; Michaela Conway, 380 and Lana Daws, 337. 
Official vote totals will not be known until after the official vote canvass which will take place next Tuesday.
