Refurbished Ag Building to be on full display this year

The Plainsman Museum will take guests on a trip back in time Sunday, celebrating the area’s ag-based heritage with a “Day on the Farm.”
Admission is free for this every-other-year event, which executive director Tina Larson said will offer fun for people of all ages.
“It’s a huge day for us, and most importantly it’s an opportunity for the community to come in and see their museum, so they walk away feeling like, to some degree, they’ve been in their own community attic. We’re constantly receiving new donations and we’re constantly upgrading and revamping displays, so we hope that people will come and continue to enjoy that.”
This year’s Day on the Farm will run from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, offering access to the entire museum, including an ag building which is now open after extensive renovations.
The Ag Building is open on a seasonal basis, since the facility is not heated. Larson said the structure is open from April 1 through Oct. 31, so the Day on the Farm, with harvest also pending, is perfect timing.
“The Ag Building is now finished,” Larson noted. “The whole thing is open and clean, with new flooring, new lights and a new layout for all the exhibits, so we hope folks will really, really enjoy it.”
In addition to the museum’s regular exhibits, Larson said there will be demonstrations and people dressed in attire from an earlier era.
“We will have some folks demonstrating some of their skills, such as blacksmithing, pottery and carving, just to name a few,” she said. “The Hamilton County Band is going to be here playing in the rotunda and there will be a bake sale. I believe the FFA will also be here with a petting zoo, so we’re probably goin to cover everything, from animals to food, you name it.”
