Marquette seeks grant for water infrastructure work

The Village of Marquette is seeking a $630,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) to fix water flow issues in the community. 
Village Clerk Cassidy Cox said if the village receives the grant it will be used to connect the village’s two wells and replace water mains that have become clogged by a build up of the mineral manganese over the years. She said $30,000 of the money will be used for construction management and general administration, with the balance going to repair the infrastructure. 
Cox said Miller & Associates Engineering has been working on the design work for the project and which has been a part of the community’s one and six-year plan for several years. Village officials are hoping for a determination from the DED by the end of the year, which would allow the work to go forward in 2027.
