According to reports shared and gathered by Aurora Adopt-a-Pet, there is still a dark brown dog -- Aussie or Border Collie -- on the run in Aurora.
Volunteers state the animal has been loose since at least Dec. 19, though possibly before and was first spotted on a front porch in the area of 13th and P streets in Aurora on that day. Since then, the dog has been spotted anywhere from the Aurora Mall to the east side of Aurora Elementary School, and many places in-between.
Those involved report that multiple parties who were earlier thought to have been the possible owners have been contacted, but ruled out following visits with animal control.
“He has been bedding down some nights near the playground at the elementary school,” said Brock Manley, Aurora Animal Control officer. “I have placed a live trap there with various treats and food. I have also been feeding him there for many days. If you seen him please call dispatch and attempt to herd him back over to the area of 4th and F streets. After many attempts at capture he seems calmer and safer over there.”
Manley added that he placed a second live trap near Aurora Middle School on Monday and further requested that citizens currently leaving food or treats out to please stop doing so, as the traps are baited and this will draw the animal toward them.
Those who wish to be of aide can do so by calling in sightings to Aurora Adopt-A-Pet, the Aurora Police Department or Manley (402-694-5815).
Further information: The dog has been seen on a ring doorbell cameras approaching houses. There are no signs of aggressive behavior, though the dog is reportedly very scared. No one thus far has been able to get close to him.
Further concern is present as the weather is turning cold and Aurora Adopt-A-Pet staff advises its important he be safely captured soon so he can get to a warm place and also checked over by a vet. There have been no reports of a missing dog of this description, so staff is still unsure of who he might belong to or where he came from.
