The High Plains Community School (HPC) Board of Education met Monday night to discuss changes to their activity programs.
First on the table was whether or not to establish girl’s wrestling as its own sport, separate from the boy’s.
Activities Director Greg Wood explained that they currently have three female wrestlers, one in high school and two in middle school who are currently competing against boys.
“This would give them the opportunity to wrestle girls only,” he said. “The cost for us is $150 just like the boys. We can use the same coach. The only difference is during practice girls have to practice against girls.”
He added that does create a problem for practice if they only have one female but he has been reaching out to other schools to practice together if that does happen.
Board member Erin Meyer asked if Wood had talked to the high school girl about the change.
