Saturday was showtime for a Hampton cheerleading squad anxious to perform in one of the year’s grand finale events.
With the opportunity to cheer on the purple and gold limited this year due to the pandemic, the Hawk cheerleaders were excited to be able to compete at the state cheerleading competition in Grand Island. Hampton performed Saturday as part of a traditional two-day event, which was spread out this year over four days in an effort to allow distancing and minimize exposure.
“It’s been really limited with what they were able to do this year so this is huge and they are so excited,” noted Jan Ediger, the group’s advisor. “The girls were used to cheering around 70 times if you counted volleyball, basketball and football. That just didn’t happen this year.”
