Updating district policies was the focus of the meeting of the Giltner School Board last week, as the board moved quickly to approve the 1000 and 5000 policies for the 2024-2025 school year.
While Supt. Nick Mumm said no changes were made to the 1000 numbered policies, new 5000 policies have been implemented. Existing policies were also reviewed and updated.
“Every three years we go through two of them as a committee and they read all of the four policies and we just go through them to ensure they are what they wanted to be and that they’re up to compliance,” Mumm explained. “The board has worked hard and we have them all together.”
New or recently updated school policies include:
Policy 5003: Admission of part-time students -- The policy allows students to enroll part-time should other factors prevent them from attending full-time such as attending another education institution or having an individualized education plan (IEP).
Policy 5004: Option enrollment -- The policy gives families the opportunity to attend a public school in a district in which the family does not reside.
Policy 5005: Transportation of option students - The school board adjusted from having three bus routes to four.
Policy 5055: Enrollment in kindergarten -- A child must reach the age of 5 years on before July 31 of the calendar year to be enrolled in kindergarten. The change for the policy was the superintendent and principal being responsible for determining if the conditions of the policy were met.
In other action, the Giltner School Board:
* approved the 2024-2025 school home lease agreements with Kurt Finley and Sheven and Jenna Rodocker;
* approved the 2024-2025 high school wrestling co-op with Harvard Public Schools;
* approved the math curriculum to be paid from the depreciation fund.
